MSMS Student Government Association, A Guide
The MSMS SGA is the student government body of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. It functions similarly to most government bodies around the world, and is modelled after the US Government. Like the US Government, SGA can be divided into three distinct branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.
Executive Branch
The SGA Executive Branch is in charge of overseeing the SGA and student body. The SGA Executive Branch can be divided into three distict sections: the SGA Officers, SGA Class Officers, and SGA Honor Court Officers. The SGA Officers oversee internal SGA matters, the SGA Class Officers oversee general student body matters, and the SGA Honor Court Officers oversee general judicial matters. Legislative Branch
The SGA Legislative Branch is in charge of proposing legislation that affect academic and student affairs. The SGA Legislative Branch comprises of the Senate. Elected Senators present legislation each Wednesday at 6:00PM in Hooper Auditorium. An in-depth description can be found in Article IV of the SGA Constitution.
Judicial Branch
The SGA Judicial Branch is in charge of hearing appeals regarding unfair and partial punishments. The SGA Judicial Branch comprises of the Honor Court. Appointed judges hear cases alongside official MSMS administration should one make an appeal. An in-depth description can be found in Article V of the SGA Constitution.
